Discover how real maple syrup is produced when you tap into the fun of Maple Sugaring Weekends at Lake Metroparks Farmpark, presented by Ganley Subaru East. Take a wagon ride down to the Woodland Center to see how sap is boiled and processed into pure maple syrup and candy during the two-weekend event (March 7 & 8 and 14 & 15). Then enjoy a sample of some freshly produced maple syrup. Visitors can whip up their own tasty treat with maple stirs, while supplies last (additional fee applies). Kids can try their hand at tapping a tree. Discover the history and technology of maple syrup and learn how you can make maple syrup at home. Also, see how the water-like substance is collected using a vacuum tubing system.
Scheduled hands-on activities for the entire family:
March 7 & 8: Tap a tree and hang a sap collection bucket on a maple tree.
March 14 & 15. Gather the sap contained in collection buckets hung on the maple trees throughout the sugar bush in the woods and pour the sweet substance into a horse-drawn sap container.
Maple Sugaring Weekends are included with Farmpark admission ($6 – 8) or membership. Visit https://goto.lakemetroparks.com/farmpark#admission for details.
