Lake County Household Hazardous Waste

Accepted Items: household cleaners and solvents, thinners, kerosene, turpentine, lighter fluid, strippers, used motor oil, diesel fuel, gasoline, coolants, antifreeze, grease, oil-based paints, varnish, shellacs, stains, aerosols, polyurethanes, primers, grout, liquid/solid pool lawn and garden chemicals, pesticides, weed killers, spray insecticides, batteries (all sizes and including lead acid and household), fluorescent bulbs (all sizes), photography chemicals, “hobby” chemicals, mercury, empty propane tanks, roofing tars and drive sealers.

Not Accepted Items: Smoke alarms, ammunition, explosives, or medical waste including prescription medicines, & needles.

Here are some helpful guidelines when preparing to bring items to these events:

  1. Leave products in original containers and label contents, if known.  This assists our contractor in directing the material to the correct process for quick and safe disposal.
  2. Bring materials ONLY during designated collection event hours.  Drive through our unloading stations, stay in your vehicle, and the trained technicians will unload items from your vehicle.
